This Week We Covet Cate Blanchett's Wardrobe

Cate Blanchett is unquestionably a modern fashion icon, as although her style is reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour, she is also experimental with her fashion choices in terms of structure, fabrics and colours. She has an innate ability to pull off even the most unusual pieces, and has been a devoted ambassador for the edgier, darker designs of the late Alexander McQueen. However, she always carries herself with sophistication and grace, which places her in a category all of her own. Dressed up or down, she never fails to impress and is somewhat of a fashion chameleon, but as she once said "You can't please everyone, but hopefully you'll surprise people".

Iconic Dress: Rita Hayworth in 'Gilda'

Epitomising Hollywood glamour was Rita Hayworth's gown worn in the 1946 film noir Gilda, created by French couturier Jean Louis. The black satin strapless dress, split thigh-high and accessorised with long black gloves, embodies the femme fatale balance of mystery and femininity, and subsequently Hayworth became a cultural icon of the time.

Runway to Red Carpet

Blake Lively wore this gorgeous teal Marchesa dress from the Fall 2010 Ready to Wear collection at the 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala: "The American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity". The dress is so beautifully detailed, Blake only needed sleek hair and fresh make-up to draw all the attention to her gown.

Here at CLOSET we are always searching the world for the very best in pre-loved designer, vintage couture and jewellery. We are always seeking to find  authentic vintage garments in beautiful condition that are wearable today rather than just simply 'old clothes'. These garments above are examples of the quality finds we are always excited to stumble across.

Iconic Dress: Annie Hall

Technically not a dress but still very worthy of the icon title, are Diane Keaton's wardrobe choices in the 1977 Woody Allen movie, Annie Hall. The masculine, androgynous look captured by Keaton, featuring oversized blazers, waistcoast and men's ties, went on to influence women's fashion in the late 70s. It was suddenly very avant-garde to be wearing pants.

Iconic Dresses: Diane von Furstenberg's Wrap Dress

Although not as Hollywood glamour as previous outfits featured in our Iconic Dresses series, this wrap dress by Diane von Furstenberg still deserves an honourable mention. Released in 1973, the humble wrap dress has gone onto sell millions and is still sold today. Marketed under the catch phrase "Feel like a woman. Wear a dress", von Furstenberg changed the face of fashion in the early 70s and was named fashion's most influential designer since Coco Chanel.
