The Best of the Emmys 2010

We all love awards ceremonies as they are the pinnacle of red carpet events, when celebrities showcase the latest designer couture. The 62nd annual Primetime Emmy awards celebrated the best in TV on August 29th, and of course the stars dressed the part, with girls from Glee looking particularly gorgeous. Classic one-shouldered and strapless gowns were popular choices especially in nude, gold and navy, but as always there were a few edgier dresses to be seen as well, such as Heidi Klum's daring mini. We hope you enjoy our selection of the best dressed ladies of the event! However the jury was out on January Jones's choice, please let us know what you think as there has been much debate over her risky Atelier Versace gown! x

Wardrobe to Covet: Julia Restoin-Roitfeld

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld is the stylish daughter of Carine Roitfeld, the editor of French Vogue. Born into fashion, Julia claims she enjoyed dressing up and taking fashion risks from a young age. She studied design which has led to a career in art design at Baron + Baron in New York, and she is a regular at runway shows and fashion events, as well as being chosen to represent Tom Ford's Black Orchid perfume. We love her slightly edgy take on classic pieces, and that she embraces her curvier European figure. Some of her favourite designers include Proenza Schouler, Brian Atwood and new talent Joseph Altuzarra.

This Week's Iconic Dress: Elizabeth Taylor in 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'

Elizabeth Taylor, one of the best known actresses of Hollywood's 'Golden Age', is also known for her love of fashion, fragrances and jewellery. She wore this white silk cocktail dress in the iconic film Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' (1958), in which she plays the sultry and witty 'Maggie the Cat'. The dress was created by costume designer Helen Rose (who noteably also designed Grace Kelly's real-life wedding dress for her marriage to Prince Rainier) and is a gorgeous example of late 50s style as the low neckline and cinched waist are designed to flatter whilst also being just a little daring.

Designer Showcase: Lanvin

1920s Lanvin gown

Lanvin Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

The high fashion house of Lanvin was founded by couturiere Jeanne Lanvin, a prominent designer of the early 20th century. Her designs were first noticed when she created garments for her daughter, which captured the attention of many wealthy Parisian women who requested copies for their own children and then for themselves. It was Lanvin's use of embroideries, beading and fancy trimmings on floral-coloured garments which gave the label its signature style. Lanvin also opened stores specialising in menswear, furs, lingerie and interior decorating, but it was the expansion into fragrances in 1927 that proved to be the greatest success. Since Jeanne Lanvin's death in 1946, the house has had many different owners and designers, but most noteably is now headed by Alber Elbaz.

Runway to Red Carpet

We always keep an eye on Olivia Palermo's wardrobe as the starlet is often dressed in the latest designer pieces and we love her ladylike but on-trend style. She wore this ruffled Valentino dress from their Spring/Summer 2010 collection to the launch of their Fall 2010 collection. Instead of styling it more casually with flats and a tote as it appeared on the runway, Palermo accessorised it with almond-toe pumps and a glittery clutch to dress it up for the event - we love her take on it!

Sunday Style

This image of Daria Werbowy is from a French Vogue shoot titled 'An American in Paris'. The styling has a relaxed 70s feel, perfect inspiration for a Sunday afternoon sight-seeing, browsing the local markets or ambling around a gallery or two. Enjoy your day x

This Week We Covet Kate Bosworth's Wardrobe

Kate Bosworth has been on the fashion radar for some time now as she is always quietly stylish and never seems to place a fashion foot wrong. She chooses designers such as Calvin Klein and Phillip Lim for their simplistic, classic lines, and Burberry, Nina Ricci and Alexander McQueen for their feminine but edgy glamour. Somewhat of a fashion chameleon, Bosworth also shifts seamlessly between boyish ensembles and girly pieces, lighting up the red carpet with her fresh, relaxed style. When off duty, she favours simple sundresses with a boho vibe, and easy outfits of denim mixed with floaty blouses.

Iconic Dress: Molly Ringwald in 'Pretty in Pink'

Molly Ringwald was a teen icon in the 1980s and was a member of the 'Brat Pack', a group of popular young actors of the time. She starred in a number of cult films, including Sixteen Candles (1984), The Breakfast Club (1985), and Pretty in Pink (1986). This pink prom dress she wore in Pretty in Pink inspired girls everywhere and carried the message that old clothing could be made new again. In the film, Ringwald's character Andie is poor but fashion-conscious, and creates her dress from her friend's old prom gown. We love that this dress represents many aspects of 80s fashion and that it encouraged women to embrace vintage and get creative with their clothing.

Designer Showcase: Balenciaga

Balenciaga Resort 2011

The fashion house of Balenciaga was founded by Cristobal Balenciaga, a designer from the Basque region of Spain. Though he established his career with boutiques across Spain, he then moved to Paris where he opened a couture house in 1937, and gained popularity almost immediately thanks to his revolutionary, original designs. He reinvented the female silhouette, and was credited with creating new shapes including the tunic dress, the balloon jacket, the babydoll dress, the cocoon coat, the balloon skirt and the sack dress. Balenciaga's innovations in the fashion world were some of the most important contributions made throughout the 20th century, and Christian Dior once referred to him as "the master" of designers. The house is now headed by Nicolas Ghesquière, who lends a modern, futuristic image to the label.
